La Campina, Venezuela

course description

Barquisimeto debuted in 1980 with a 6700-yard, par 71 course created by Joseph Lee, an architect from the US. His nicely proportioned design features tight fairways and diminutive but moderately sculpted greens, so though it is not long it takes some work to keep to your handicap here; wind is definitely in play. The most difficult hole is the signature 7th, a 460-yard par 4. Caddies are required, which means that at least players can expect fewer lost balls than might otherwise be the case. The service is fine and the clubhouse, from which the grounds can be surveyed, is cozy and welcoming, though you may want to brush up on your Spanish before visiting. The amenities are not outstanding, but there is a decent grass driving range. The club has hosted a number of competitions, in particular a pair of Simon Bolivar Cups and a Tour de Las Americas Championship.
