Baltusrol Golf Club - The Lower

Springfield, The United States

course description

The Baltusrol Golf Club, a New Jersey institution since 1895, features another of A. W. Tillinghast's superb designs; every hole is lovely, unique and unforgettable. The course, which dates to 1918, and was renovated by Robert Trent and Rees Jones, is also one of the more difficult tournament layouts in the US. A major factor in that difficulty is a length—the 647-yard 17th and 553-yard 18th holes being good examples—that can intimidate less accomplished golfers. On the other hand, the fact that it is so challenging naturally makes the course the perfect venue for the greats to match wits, and such luminaries as Jack NIcklaus, Phil Mickelson and Mickey Wright have come to Baltusrol for such events as six US Amateur Championships, nine US Opens and the 2005 PGA in 2005 (the PGA is to return in 2016). Players can recuperate at the vintage clubhouse that overlooks the course.
