course description

The Glashedy Links course was constructed at Ballyliffin Golf Club early in the Nineties in response to the growing popularity of the club's venerable Old Course. Native architects Tom Craddock and Pat Ruddy were specifically charged with creating a tournament-ready course, and this they did. More demanding than the Old Course, the Glashedy attracted the 1998 Ladies Irish Open just three years after its completion, as well as the North West of Ireland Open in 2002. Imposing sand dunes give relief to the course, while the spaces between them serve as fairways; the wind, of course, is a significant factor. Strategic placement of the bunkers ensures that players' chipping and putting skills will be put to the test. Measuring over 6600 meters, the Glashedy takes some stamina, but the picturesque landscape, in particular the imposing rock from which the course takes its name, offers a welcome diversion.
