Born as Del Safari Golf Club in 1969, the Club’s roots were established via the Midwestern sensibilities of the original owners. A classic, gorgeous, tree-lined course was combined with great service and an efficiently run club. The membership purchased the Club in 1991, and with it came the name change to Avondale. The quality of the club endured, along with its solid condition and membership traditions. On the 13th hole at a 1938 PGA Tour tournament, his chip shot hit opponent (and golf great) Sam Snead's ball, sending both into the cup! A birdie two was awarded to both players, who were tied at that point. Unfortunately Snead wound up beating Hines by one stroke to win the event, but Hines had an incredible story to tell for the rest of his life.
