Northfield, The United States

course description

John Reid designed the Atlantic City Country Club, or ACCC, in 1897, and it soon claimed made golf history as the place where the term "birdie" was coined. Among the stars who have played here are Harry Vardon, Walter Hagen and Arnold Palmer, who in the early Fifties was stationed at the National Guard facility in nearby Cape May. Among the tournaments here have been the US Amateur Championship (in 1901), the US Women's Open (three times) and the Senior PGA Tour the very first time it was played (in 1980). Renovations over the years have been undertaken by Willie Park Jr., William Flynn, Howard Toomey and, last of all, Tom Doak, who was budgeted $15,000,000 for the task when Caesars Entertainment bought the club. The layout offers a nice variety of holes, in particular four demanding though short par 3s and the signature 339-yard par 4 14th, set amid the marshes.
