Members and their guests
Tom Fazio designed the course for Diamond Creek, an exclusive club located out in the countryside of western North Carolina near the town of Banner Elk. The site includes a downhill run from an abandoned skiing complex surrounded by dense woods. The club is situated at 4000 feet above sea level, and offers spectacular alpine vistas of the Great Smoky Mountains. A unique feature is the absence of tee boxes; players are free to follow their instincts after consulting the tee plates. The front nine and the first two holes of the back nine lie on the aforementioned ski run, while the remaining seven are played in the woods. Beginning and even casual golfers may find the layout a bit too much, but more experienced players will appreciate the lofty, gentle approaches to greens that are swift and sculpted. Maintenance is top-notch, and the huge, vintage-style is exquisitely decorated.
