South African businessman Sol Kerzner created the then-controversial resort community of Sun City some four decades ago, and his project went so well that he proceeded to recreate the design in locations from the Bahamas to Malaysia, Dubai and Morocco. Gary Player's par 72 walking course here is a fine one, having repeatedly hosted the Million Dollar Classic, where the big purse attracts the dozen best golfers on the planet to compete. The layout caters to the wide range of players who visit the resort as well as the top pros with a wide variety of teeing options. The bunkering is strategic; the fairways of kikuyu and greens of bentgrass make for superb playing surfaces. The clubhouse has a restaurant that surveys the course, and features a well-stocked pro shop as well as a fine spa and a gym; there is also a three-mile jogging path.
