Architect

Major Charles Mackenzie

The course was planned and constructed by Major Charles MacKenzie, the brother and business partner of the now legendary Dr Alistair MacKenzie who designed Augusta National and Cypress Point. Situated in a heathland and woodland setting just 1mile from the centre of the historic city of York, Fulford Golf Club remains one of the very best inland golf courses in the United Kingdom.

Apart from obvious Berhard Langer famously playing his ball out of tree on the 17, the course is split into two very different halves, you play the first 5 holes on one side of the A64 motorway which offers a couple of long par 4's then walk over a bridge to be greeted but a challenging champion standard course which is lined with tall trees and lots of bunkers. Back over the bridge again to play from the 13th where this time of year the gorse is in bloom and the rough isn't too challenging. Fulford feels like a course steeped in history and we were made to feel very welcome in both the pro shop and the clubhouse.

A must play when visiting Yorkshire! The course is well known for its fantastic greens and spectacular bunkers. Recent changes by Mackenzie & Ebert architects (who revamped Trump Turnberry) have further improved the course which continues to host regional and national events. The members and staff are very welcoming towards visitors and this offers a great experience. A quality heathland course well worth a visit.
