Any course that you have to get to via a boat is going to be special. The views of the Whitsundays from the course are incredible and the course has a great mix of holes. I had a playing lesson here and the pro was very friendly and helpful both during the lesson and in the lead-up to planning my trip.
The views from the course in the Whitsunday Islands must be the equal of any in the world. I would love to have another crack at it on a calm day now we are less afraid of snakes, with no jetlag & with a caddie. As it was the wind blew hard, the fairways were firm with big slopes and the rough was so deep I would have struggled to find my balls anyway, even if the snake warning from the starter hadn’t made us too scared to go looking!!
I played from the forward tees from about the 6th hole onwards and on the last hole lost the final ball in my bag. A new and hopefully never to be repeated experience.
I am pretty sure if a caddie had come with us & we had played this course later in our trip we would be talking about it in the same way we are now gushing about Kauri, Barnbougle, Jacks Point, etc. Sounds like a good reason for another visit to this fantastic resort island!
5* star plus views, can’t be sure about the course, hence the 4* rating but I’d say this is a MUST play course given the opportunity.
One simple word describes Hamilton Island Golf Club - LOCATION! The course is actually located across the way from Hamilton Island itself, on Dent Island and requires a private boat from H. I to Dent. This is a pretty cool experience no matter how old you are or how many times you've played here. This championship course was designed by Australian legend Peter Thompson.
You can play off whichever tee you want and just really marvel at the views you get from playing here.
I've heard a lot of negative chat regarding the actual course but golf wasn't meant to be played out of the rough which is very high rough and hey look I hit balls in there, everyone does, just take a few extra with you. Worth every dollar to play here, and have a beer on course and enjoy the scenery because it's world class!
