Established in 1919, Amarillo Country Club is recognized as "one of the finest golf courses west of Fort Worth. " The club's long history includes hosting several large state and national tournaments. The 1951 Texas P. G. A. was won by Texas golf legend Byron Nelson. The Club hosted two L. P. G. A. tournaments in 1966, and again in 1967. Many of the game's greatest female players tested the tree-lined fairways of Amarillo Country Club, with hall of famed Kathy Whitworth capturing the inaugural 1966 event.
