course description

The course at Aronimink Golf Club, located just west of Philadelphia, was designed by Donald Ross, and it compares favorably with the famous architect's better-known creations. The layout was conceived with tournament play in mind, and the course has attracted such events over the years as the PGA Championship (in 1962), the US Amateur Championship (1977), the Senior PGA Championship (2003) and the AT&T National (2010-2011). New tees were added on three of the holes in preparation for this latter competition, and all of the bunkering was refurbished. Among the challenges at Aronimink is the green on the 11th, which almost defies a two-putt, and the closing set of the par 5 16th with its angled fairway, dense rough and fierce bunkers, the 215-yard, over-water 17th with its concave green and the 436-yard, doglegged 18th. The enormous castle of a clubhouse is suited to the grandeur of the course.
