As he prepares to leave the world of pro golf and is concentrating more on design, Nick Faldo is making a name for himself with courses like this one at Angkor. The second of two courses at Siem Reap, Angkor fits in well with the first, which has already attracted championship play. The two layouts share a setting on low ground with a nice blend of contoured fairways edged by water. While most of the course is straightforward, a few of the holes present a real challenge, including the 600-yard, par 5 3rd, which requires great care off the tee to reach a green defended by a water hazard, and the punishing final hole. Most players will be satisfied with one round, after which they can enjoy the marvelous archaeological park that houses the ruins of the Khmer Empire that ruled the area from 802 to 1431.
